Photo of the Week - the Biggest Horah Ever

Bernadette Coveney Smith - Thursday, September 10, 2009
Another horah photo - I do love the horah.  It's a great tradition but check out how big this one is, outside a gorgeous and huge private residence in Falmouth.

Photo of the Week - Solemnity

Bernadette Coveney Smith - Friday, September 04, 2009
I love gay weddings in churches.  It's powerful for me, having been raised Catholic and having attended Catholic school, to see the juxtaposition of religion and sexuality in such a positive way.

This photograph came from a wedding at my favorite church in Boston for gay weddings, the Old South Church, and was taken this past May.  The (very nervous!) grooms are waiting to be cued for the processional.

Photo of the Week - LOVE

Bernadette Coveney Smith - Thursday, August 27, 2009
Can't you just see it in their eyes, in their embrace, in their smile, in their everything?

Taken during a client's ceremony back in 2006.  What a fun couple!

Photo of the Week - Jubilation

Bernadette Coveney Smith - Thursday, August 20, 2009
You will hear me say it again and again but gay weddings are downright jubilant.  There is a very palpable feeling of rejoicing.  This photo from a 2004 wedding says it all - the brides are in the background leading the ceremony recessional out of the building towards cocktail hour and everyone else is, well, jubilant.

Photo of the Week - the Bow Tie

Bernadette Coveney Smith - Thursday, August 13, 2009
I don't know how to hand-tie a bow tie.  Last year one of my grooms decided he wanted to hand-tie his (the design was from his Scottish tartan) and brought a how-to print out to the hotel.  There he was getting ready, struggling with the bow tie.  His fiance is helping.  I'm helping.  It's a little uneven. We're a tiny bit frustrated.  His mom is watching us.  All captured by the terrific photographer - and this is why I love "getting ready" photos.

Photo of the Week

Bernadette Coveney Smith - Thursday, August 06, 2009
Every Friday from now on I'll be posting a photo of the week, in many cases from one of my client's weddings.

This photo was from a wedding this past April.  My clients live in Manhattan and came to Boston to be married, bringing about 50 friends and family from around the world.  One of the grooms is Jewish and one of my most favorite wedding traditions is the horah - especially when it's two brides or two grooms up on those chairs.  There's almost nothing more fun.  I love the pure joy of the dance - and the look of near fear in Steve's eyes - and the look on the mom's face in the foreground.  I miss these guys!
